President Bidya Devi Bhandari has expressed
concerns to include all workers – formal and informal – in the social security
net.
“I expect that the concerned stakeholders
will pay attention to exhibit high respect to agriculture and include all
labour in the social security programmes,” she said in a message on Thursday on
the occasion of the International Workers Day.
She said that the constitution of Nepal had
ensured the right to employment to all citizens and rights of fair labour
exercise, wages and contributory social security facility.
In the same line, the government has
guaranteed the social security of the workers through employment for at least
100 days through the Prime Minister Employment Programme.
As the constitutional provisions are being
materialised to create socialism-oriented economy based on justice and
equality, I am hopeful that the workers in the country will be benefitted from
this exercise, she maintained.
President Bhandari urged patience and unity
to fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
“We stand at a very difficult time due to
COVID-19. I am hopeful that the government’s policy and programmes for the next
fiscal year will give due attention to the crisis, and workers life will return
to normal,” she said.
President Bhandari expressed her hope that the
International Workers Day would unite all workers of the world.
