The
Ministry of Industry (MoI) said that it has proposed Rs. 14.76 billion budget
for the next fiscal year, Rs. 6.5 billion higher than the ceiling that the
Ministry of Finance (MoF) had set for the former.
At
a press conference organised at the ministry, joint secretary Purushottam Nepal
said that it has proposed some new plans and programmes with an aim of
developing the industrial sector.
"We
have asked budget for the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) in Biratnagar, Gorkha
and Dhangadhi, Cross-border Economic Zones at the border areas with China and
India, export promotion centres at borders and international airports, and
industrial tower and seismological and geological tower," he said.
Minister
for Industry Nabindra Raj Joshi said that the government also wanted to
establish SEZ for the production of special goods, with the investment from the
private sector.
He
said that priority would be given to the construction of access roads to the
limestone mines to facilitate the cement industries.
Other
programmes proposed by the Ministry include mobilization of Rapid Address Team
for the inspection of quality of produced goods, support to micro-entrepreneurs
to upgrade them, establishment of industrial excellence centre in collaboration
with the private sector, increase the export of garment to Rs. 25 billion,
developing mobile apps to facilitate the businessmen and consumers, and running
business incubation centres in all seven provinces.
It
has also proposed to develop quake-resistant industrial smart cities in
Mountain, Hills and Terai region and amusement park on the banks of Bagmati
river in Kathmandu and Lalitpur.
