Kathmandu, July 5: The
Industrial District Management Limited (IDML) has said that the Detail Project
Report (DPR) and Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) of the industrial
districts being developed in five provinces would be completed within the next
six months.
The DPR will finalise the
plan of action and particulars in the proposed industrial zones.
It published a notice
requesting pre-expression of interest from the prospective investors and
industrialists interested to establish their factories in the designated
industrial districts across the country in order to define the future course of
action at the locations.
The industrial
districts which are open to the prospective investors lie in Sarlahi, Makwanpur,
Chitwan, Rupandehi, Banke, Kailali and Kanchanpur districts.
It said that the
pre-expression of interest was only a tool to measure the types and number of
industries seeking land in the industrial districts.
“It’s more like a piloting
for the new project. The data collected through the pre-expression will tell us
the number, type and size of the industries in an industrial zone. The
collected information will help the IDML to create the required infrastructure,
such as roads, electricity and the like,” said Amrit Shahi, civil engineer at
the Planning and Development Division of the IDML.
According to him, the
data will help to create an impactful DPR of the projects. The IDML can
concentrate more on those areas where the demand is high.

“Pre-expression of
interest to establish an industry in the announced industrial districts by the
entrepreneurs will be the primary data source for the strategic planning and
development of industrial districts in each province,” reads the notice.
Shahi said that the
IDML was holding discussion with stakeholders like the NEA in order to provide
the basic facilities in time.
Provinces 3 and 5 have
two industrial districts each, Mayurdhap and Shaktikhor in Makwanpur, and
Chitwan and Motipur and Naubasta in Rupandehi and Banke respectively.
Likewise, Provinces 2,
7 and Karnali have an industrial zone each – Sagarnath in Sarlahi, Daiji in
Kanchanpur and Lamki in Kailali respectively.
Sagarnath is the
largest industrial zone by area, which has been expanded to 2031.33 hectares
followed by Shaktikhor 1178.76 ha. and Lamki 744.82 ha. Mayurdhap is the
smallest one covering just 134.86 hectares.
The IDML said that it
had finalised the locations in the other two provinces – 1 and 4 – as well.
“The area in Damak of
Jhapa district around the Ratuwa River in Province No. 1 and Tyangli Phant of
Gorkha and Chhinchutar in Tanahu district in Province No. 4 have been finalised
for building industrial zones. Discussion with the local people and other
stakeholders has delayed the process at these locations,” said Shahi.
Land acquisition process has been started in
these two locations.
Although the Ministry
of Industry in 2016 had said that infrastructure development works would be
completed in the industrial districts in seven provinces, the process has been
delayed.
