'Resource management key to development'

Kathmandu, Feb 10:
Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Dr. Chiranjibi Nepal Friday said that resource management and allocation were the keys to development.

“Any country that can manage resources will develop faster. But we have failed in managing our resources,” he said while addressing the 36th National Management Convention and Annual General Assembly of Management Association of Nepal (MAN).
He also said that Nepal had failed in defining what were good or bad for its economy.

Former governor of the NRB and vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC) Deependra Bahadur Kshetry cited lack of complacency, work ethics, national values, weak governance, political uncertainty and corruption as the constraints to growth.

He urged the government to manage the Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF) under the Ministry of Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation.

First vice-president of MAN Sushil Bhatta said that the line ministries should develop plans for the concerned sectors instead of the NPC.

Professor of the Tribhuvan University Dr. Sateesh Kumar Ojha said that the education philosophy should be changed, and there should be more focus on practical activities.

“Government and other stakeholders should pay attention to developing entrepreneurship, and programmes should be executed for incubation, mentoring and orientation of young entrepreneurs,” he said.
