Kathmandu, Jul 14
Incumbent
vice president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry
(FNCCI) Chandra Prasad Dhakal has announced his candidacy for the post of Senior
Vice President of the organisation.
He
is now VP (Associate) at the FNCCI.
In
a programme organised in the Capital on Tuesday, he announced his panel with
the candidates for vice-presidents for commodity, associate and district of the
largest business body in the country.
Gun
Nidhi Tiwari, Umesh Lal Shrestha and Ram Chandra Sanghai are vying for the
posts of district, commodity and associate VP respectively.
The
Annual General Meeting of the FNCCI is organised in April every year, but the
COVID-19 pandemic has disturbed it this year and was postponed for indefinite
period. However, the business body is planning to hold its AGM on August 10 and
11 if the situation does not get aggravated in the days to come.
Announcing
the candidates for the vital posts from his panel, Dhakal said that his team
would work together with the government and stakeholders in mitigating the
adverse impacts inflicted by the pandemic in business and economy.
“The
FNCCI is the representative body of all businesses ranging from small and
cottage to large industries and has its presence from village to policy level
which has made it a formidable force in the economy,” he said.
Urging
the members of the FNCCI to assess the capability and relations of the team of
opposition candidates, Dhakal pledged his support to them.
He
also pledged his full support to the upcoming President Shekhar Golchha, who is
the Senior VP of the business body and will automatically upgraded to the
higher post from the AGM. He sought Golchha’s support claiming that he had
played an instrumental role to uphold the statute’s provision to automatically
elect the Senior VP to the post of the president.
Dhakal
said that the private sector was an engine for economic growth and job creation
and it’s active participation was expected to move the engine ahead.
He
pledged to launch an initiative for the 30 per cent share of the municipal
chamber of commerce and industry in the municipal business tax and would demand
for the mandatory provision for the FNCCI’s recommendation for the renewal of
cottage industry.
He
said that he would resume the ‘One village, One product’ programme, launch
training for entrepreneurship development, and develop a model to manage
resources to generate at least Rs. 500,000 for the chamber of commerce and
industry.
Meanwhile,
Kishore Kumar Pradhan, VP (Industry Commerce) is also set to announce his
candidacy for the post of Senior VP. He will announce his panel in a few days.
