Kathmandu, Aug.
29: International Labour Organisation (ILO)’s Nepal Country Director Dr.
Richard Howard has expressed confidence that the new Labour Act and Social
Security Act would facilitate in strengthening relations of the employers and
the trade unions.
Speaking at a
meeting with the Employers’ Council of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of
Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) on Tuesday, he said that the new legal
instruments would support in employment generation and overall economic
development of the country.
According to
him, the ILO Nepal Office is ready to provide technical support to strengthen
the Council and develop entrepreneurship through it.
Senior
Vice-President of FNCCI Shekhar Golchha said that the new laws had created an
opportunity for economic development through investment promotion.
“Nepal is
gradually moving towards political stability. At the same time, load shedding
has come to an end, and favourable policies have been implemented as per the
demand of the private sector. Therefore, we are hopeful that there will be
better investment climate in the days to come,” he said.
Vice-President
of FNCCI and Chairman of the Council Chandra Prasad Dhakal expressed confidence
that the acts, which were the result of the joint effort of the employers and
trade unions, would be implemented effectively.
“Private sector
wants sincere implementation of the new legal provisions,” he said.
Vice-Chairman
of the Council Bharat Raj Acharya, and high officials of the ILO Nepal Office
and FNCCI participated in the meeting.
