The fifth edition of Ekadeshma – International Short Film Festival kicked
off in the capital on Thursday.
The four-day festival being organised at Kumari Cinema will feature 99 movies
from 43 countries around the world.
Organizers said that the movies were divided into five categories: Power
– resilience, Power – choice, Power – freedom, Let there be light and Changing
perspective.
There is a special session for Bangladeshi movies. Bollywood actor
Gulshan Grover also attended the opening ceremony of the film mela.
The movies selected for the festival were based on the stories of
struggle and self-revelation. Short movies screened at the inaugural function
also depicted the theme.
A panel discussion on Opening Doors was organised on Friday which was
focused on orientation on Locarno Open Doors, whose special focus for the next
three years is eight South Asian countries including Nepal.
There will be another discussion on Women in Films, which will discuss
issues on mirroring the women's role in Nepali Film Industry where artistes
Manisha Koirala, Ramyata Limbu, Subina Shrestha and Menuka Rai will deliberate
on the issues.
Similarly, issues on South Asian Film Cooperation will also be discussed
in order to explore possibilities of co-production between the South Asian
nations under the shadow of gigantic Indian Film Industry.
