Rotary hands over 49 houses to quake-victims

Lalitpur, Feb. 14:
Rotary International Wednesday handed over 49 houses to the quake-victims in Manegaun Burungchuli of Lalitpur district.

RI Vice-President Dean Rohrs provided the keys of the houses, built with the support from various Rotary Clubs around the globe, to the beneficiaries amidst a special programme organised in the village.

Rohrs was an Operating Room Nurse on Professor Christian Barnard's team that performed the first-ever human heart transplant.

RI is also constructing 46 houses in Sindhupalchowk and 69 in Kavreplanchowk districts, said Rajendra Shakya, coordinator of the Earthquake Relief, Rehabilitation, Reconstruction Programme of RI District 3292 Nepal.

"It is RI's mission to bring smile to the people in difficulties. We will collaborate with Nepal in terms of humanitarian works in the future," said Rohrs while interacting with journalists.

According to her, Rotary works for the advancement of humanity by developing peace in communities through education, good health and opportunities.

She said that Rotary was working in six key areas: peace and conflict resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, mother and child health, education and literacy and economic and community development.

Rohrs, a Canadian, owns a company, Rhide Technologies Inc., which supplies soil stabilisation products for road construction.

She has already served as Rotary Director, Regional Rotary Coordinator and Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator.
