May 14: Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gokul Prasad
Baskota said on Tuesday that the government was committed to building 'digital
Nepal'.
"The
country will be turned into fully digital nation by the end of the 15th
five-year plan 2019/20-2024/25," he said while inaugurating the Disaster
Recovery Centre for the central data centre at Huprechaur in Hetauda
Sub-Metropolitan City, Capital of Province 3.
According
to him, optical fibre would be laid across the east-west Mid-Hill Highway, 4G
technology would be expanded outside the Kathmandu Valley, and additional data
centres would be established in Kathmandu, Kohalpur of Banke district and
Itahari or Sunsari district.
"This
data centre in Hetauda will work as a backup system during the natural
disasters," he said.
Minister
Baskota said that the government was committed to making positive changes in
the society with infrastructure development and well-planned development.
He
said that any political movement and violent activities were not needed, and
the government would protect the rights of the press.
"The
government has ensured the economic rights along with the freedom of the press.
The freedom has not been hampered but will be strengthened," he stated.
He
reiterated that the ruling party had fought for the equality, freedom and
democracy so it would give topmost priority to maintain the constitutional
supremacy and citizens' rights.
He
reminded the journalists that their duty was to point out the weaknesses not to
defame anyone.
He
said the government would not formulate laws looking at the power and posts but
by following the loktantrik system.
Minister
for Financial Affairs and Planning of State 3 Kailash Dhungel and executive
director of the National Information Technology Centre Sunil Poudel had also
addressed the function chaired by Secretary at the Ministry of Communication
and Information Technology Mahendra Man
Gurung.
