Kathmandu, May 9
A conference on 'the role of local
level in disaster management, reconstruction, energy and climate change' will
kick off from Monday in the Capital.
Representatives of local
governments from Nepal, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and China, and
experts of the areas will participate in the conference, said the National
Reconstruction Authority (NRA).
In the conference, Nepal will
present the achievements in the post-quake reconstruction and its sustainability.
NRA Chief Executive Officer Sushil Gyawali will present a paper on the topic.
Similarly, experts and chairmen of the rural municipalities and mayors of
municipalities will present various ideas in the conference.
The reconstruction body said that
the conference was being organised to share the experiences of reconstruction
and disaster preparedness and management among the south Asian countries and
China and create future strategies.
CEO of the National Federation of
Rural Municipalities Bimal Pokharel said that Nepal has made significant
progress in the post-quake reconstruction due to the collaborations among the
federal government, local government and the NRA. "We want to tell our
success story to the international community. This is the main aim of the
conference," he said.
The conference will be jointly
organised by the NRA, NFRM, Nepal Municipality Association, United City and
Local Government Asia Pacific and the European Union.
