Nepal doesn't support Taiwan's independence: PM Prachanda

 Kathmandu, Jan. 14

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachand' said on Sunday that Nepal has a clear point of view regarding 'Taiwan independence' and the island is an integral part of China.

"This has been clarified in the joint statement issued during my visit to China. We want to say again that we are against Taiwan independence," he said while inaugurating the Chinese New Year in Kathmandu.

Stating that that Nepal and China are close neighbours and trusted friends, PM Prachanda said that the relations between the two countries are strong based on the principles of peaceful coexistence and Panchasheel.

"Nepal is committed to the One China principle. Our commitment in this regard is clear and firm. Changes in internal and external affairs will not affect our commitment in any way," he said.

Making it clear that Nepali land will not be used against China, he said that the civilisations of the two countries are not only connected by rivers and snow chains, but common culture and people-level relations are also important.
