Kathmandu, Feb. 6
Ambar Arbud Sewa (AAS), in collaboration
with Meta Healthcare Nepal, United Imaging Healthcare, and Longevous BeamTech
Co. Ltd., is setting up the country’s first-ever cyclotron facility in Dhading.
Expected to be operational within nine months, this initiative will bring
much-needed cancer detection and treatment advancements, the AAS informed in a
statement.
The initiative was launched on the occasion
of World Cancer Day on Tuesday, February 4.
The new cyclotron facility will produce
medical isotopes locally, making cancer diagnostics more accessible.
"For years, Nepali patients have had
to rely on imported medical isotopes for critical diagnostic procedures like
PET scans. These scans help detect cancer early, significantly improving the
chances of successful treatment," read the statement.
According to AAS, this project will provide
better access to advanced medical imaging and open doors for further research
and innovation in nuclear medicine. With cancer becoming an increasing concern,
timely diagnosis is crucial in saving lives.
“By establishing this facility, we are
ensuring that patients no longer face delays or need to travel abroad for
essential scans," said President of AAS, Dhan Bahadur Sherchan. The impact
will be felt across hospitals and medical institutions, benefiting countless
patients and their families, he maintained.
According to the participating
organisations, this initiative is believed to pave the way for enhanced
accessibility to life-saving medical imaging and bring renewed hope to patients
nationwide.
