Kathmandu, Feb. 14
A joint team of Nepal Chamber of
Commerce (NCC) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) conducted a
monitoring visit in Panauti Municipality and Roshi Rural Municipality of Kavre,
where the two organisations have been supporting reconstruction and livelihood
initiatives for communities affected by floods and landslides of September last
year.
The monitoring team led by the President
of NCC, Kamlesh Kumar Agrawal and UNDP Resident Representative, Kyoko Yokosuka,
reached the location to assess the progress of grant-assisted
projects.
In December last year, the NCC and UNDP
signed a partnership agreement to support communities in Roshi and Panauti affected
by the disaster.
According to a statement issued by the
NCC on Sunday, the monitoring focused on cash-for-work programmes and climate
adaptation initiatives in the affected areas. The cash-for-work projects
include the cleaning and restoration of irrigation canals, community roads,
drainage systems and agricultural land and removing debris such as soil, rocks,
and logs.
These activities have also contributed
to job creation for the local people.
The monitoring visit also reviewed
progress in the capacity-building of communities, climate change adaptation,
and disaster risk reduction. Agrawal expressed satisfaction with the ongoing
work and assured of continued collaboration and support in the future, read the
statement.
Likewise, Yukosuka expressed her delight
over UNDP’s collaboration with the NCC in assisting flood-affected communities.
