FM Rana instructs employees to deliver prompt services to citizens

Kathmandu, June 7

Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has said that a passport is no longer a luxury item for citizens, but a fundamental right. She has urged civil servants to act with sensitivity and responsibility while delivering such essential services.

FM Dr. Rana said so while addressing the orientation programme organised by the Department of Passports for the employees involved in passport services at the District Administration Offices of Sudurpashim Province in Dhangadi on Saturday.

FM Dr. Rana said that the staff working in sensitive services like passports should prioritise the problems and needs of citizens, and think about ways to provide them with prompt and convenient services.

She also mentioned that the government is actively working on how to make services more accessible and citizen-friendly, particularly in remote and far-flung districts such as those in Sudurpaschim.

“Obtaining a passport is no longer as complicated as it used to be. However, I have heard that some issues still arise during service delivery and distribution process. It is only natural for the public to expect government services to be delivered as quickly as possible," she said.

According to her, it is the government's responsibility to ensure that services are simplified, made convenient, and accessible, and civil servants are crucial in rendering these services.

Minister Dr. Rana urged the officials to provide the government with suggestions on how the current passport services can be made more convenient and accessible for citizens in remote districts.

“You can advise the government on the problems citizens face in obtaining passports and the possible improvements. The government will accordingly introduce timely reforms,” she said.
