Labour Ministry honours CAN Federation

Kathmandu, Jan. 8

The government has honoured the Computer Association of Nepal Federation (CAN Federation) and its senior leadership for their transformative contribution to the development of Nepal's Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector, digital literacy, and skilled workforce production.

The recognition took place during a special ceremony held in Bhainsepati, Lalitpur, on the occasion of the second anniversary of the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI), under the Ministry of Labour, Employment, and Social Security (MoLESS).

Two senior officials from the federation received certificates of appreciation and honour from the government. CAN Federation's Senior Vice President Chiranjivi Adhikari was recognised for laying the foundation of vocational ICT training and taking a leadership role, while General Secretary, Chandra Vilas Bhurtel, was honoured for his commendable work as the chairperson of the curriculum drafting sub-committee, the CAN Federation informed in a statement.

Minister of Labour, Employment, and Social Security, Rajendra Singh Bhandari, Secretary of Labour and Chairperson of the NVTI Development Committee Dr. Deepak Kafle, and Executive Director of NVTI, Ramesh Kumar Bakhati, jointly presented the honours to the federation.

In the fiscal year 2024/25, two fundamental ICT skill-based curricula were developed through the collaboration between NVTI and the CAN Federation, addressing the needs of the labour market. These programmes are designed to directly link skilled workforce production with economic needs and employment opportunities. The main basis for the recognition of Adhikari was his concept of 'Skills in Hands,' which he initiated during his tenure as General Secretary.

Receiving the honour, the CAN Federation expressed its commitment to continue working closely with the government to play a stronger role in the development of skills in the ICT sector and the creation of employment. The federation aims to expand its programmes further to enable Nepali workers to compete in the global digital economy.
