Sana Kisan Microfinance serves 900,000 families

Kathmandu, July 6

Small Farmer Development Microfinance Financial Institution Limited has expanded its services to about 900,000 families of small holder farmers and the deprived communities.

The company is catering microfinance and agricultural promotion programme to those families in 74 districts, it said in a statement issued on the occasion of its 20th anniversary on Tuesday.

Sana Kisan is promoting 1,374 cooperatives including 957 small farmers’ agriculture cooperatives in 531 municipalities in 74 districts.

“In near future, the company will expand its services to more municipalities and contribute to the transformation of agriculture to bring prosperity to farmers and expedition of entrepreneurship development programmes,” chairman of the company, Khem Bahadur Pathak said at the anniversary programme organised virtually.

He said that agricultural businesses and enterprises run by the youth in the rural areas will grow and prosper if they have access to easy and concessional loans. According to him, the company aimed at creating agro-entrepreneurs.

Addressing the programme attended by more than 300 representatives of agro-cooperatives and farmers, Governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank Maha Prasad Adhikari said that the company has played an important role in raising the living standards of poor farmers and contributed to poverty alleviation. According to him, the company should pay attention to the qualitative factors in its business expansion.
