Trishuli B-Hub transmission line, sub-station come into operation

Transmission projects are priority: PM Oli

Kathmandu, July 3

Samundratar Trishuli B-Hub 132 KV transmission line and substation project have come into operation.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli inaugurated the project through a virtual conference from PM Residence in Baluwatar on Saturday.

The 26-kilometre long transmission line from Samundratar of Dupcheshwar Rural Municipality to Trishuli B-Hub Sub-station in Kisping Rural Municipality in Nuwakot district is supported by 84 towers.

Nepal Electricity Authority’s Executive Director Hitendra Dev Shakya said the NEA has plans to connect Matatirtha Sub-station in Kathmandu and other sub-stations with the transmission line.

According to him, the double-circuit transmission line will help to bring more than 600 Megawatt of electricity generated in Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts to the Kathmandu Valley through the new sub-station.

Inaugurating the project, PM Oli said that Nepal was on the path to meet the domestic energy demand from its own electricity generation. He stated that the government was working for import substitution through increased energy generation, transmission of generated electricity, and to create a balance in its use.

“Earlier, there were weaknesses like failure to create transmission line when the hydroelectricity project was ready and absence of sub-transmission lines to distribute electricity. Now we have paid enough attention in creating the transmission infrastructure along with the energy projects,” he said.

Mentioning that Nepal had started electricity generation about 110 years ago to become the second country in South Asia to have such facility, PM Oli mentioned that the country failed to make the desire development and progress in the electricity sector.

The country needs reservoir projects like Kulekhani and a couple of projects of such type are given priority, he said.

Speaking in another context, the PM said that vaccines against the COVID-19 would arrive soon and the country would not be deprived of the life-saving facility.

“We are moving from a situation to fight with a pandemic to check it beforehand. However, it is not possible to inoculate one and all at a time. Everyone will receive vaccine according to priority,” he said.

He also said that the government was paying enough attention in rescue of the people affected by the floods and landslides and relief to them.

According to him, the money for the relief is already sent to the respective affected area and government would provide treatment to all wounded people.
