Kathmandu, Dec. 6
The clean-up campaign at the Shivapuri
National Park (SNP) initiated jointly by the Delegation of the European Union in
Nepal and Clean Up Nepal has completed 10 weeks.
The
'10 weeks permanent clean-up campaign in the SNP was launched as per the
framework of the EU Climate Diplomacy and the European Year of Youth 2022.
According
to the organisers, the campaign builds on the previous successful clean-up
campaign organised by Clean Up Nepal at the SNP in May 2022.
The
clean-up programme was organised from October 15 to November 17 this year.
It
occurred every Saturday where two social mobilisers from Clean-up Nepal were present
at the park's main entrance to engage the everyday visitors in cleaning up the
trails by bringing back garbage on a voluntary basis.
In
addition, the social mobilisers will take pictures and video interviews of
youth picking up garbage. This activity also includes installation of
eco-friendly banner and distribution of reusable bags (to collect garbage),
gloves, reusable plastic bottles and badges.
"We
teamed up with Clean up Nepal for a 10-week-long campaign that will see the
installation of recyclable collection centers, distribution of eco-friendly
products, cleaning of the trials, and other activities," said the Delegation
of the EU, in a statement.
The
participants collected wastes from various trekking routes in the SNP leading
to Nagi Gumba, Peak and Bagdwar. The collected waste was segregated into
recyclable and non-recyclable at the entrance of the SNP and later collected
by Budhanilakantha Municipality.
