Nepal
Association of Financial Journalists (NAFIJ) has signed a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) with the Bharat Mohan Adhikari Foundation (BMAF) to award two
economic journalists with cash prizes for best reporting.
The
two organisations signed the MoU on Tuesday to award 'Bharat Mohan Adhikari - NAFIJ
Economic Journalism Award' and 'Bharat Mohan Adhikari - NAFIJ Cooperative
Journalism Award' with the financial support from the BMAF.
Limi
Adhikari, founding General Secretary of the foundation and daughter of former
finance minister late Bharat Mohan Adhikari and President of NAFIJ Modnath
Dhakal signed the MoU at a programme in Kathmandu.
Each
award will carry a purse of Rs. 50,000 and a certificate, and it will be
distributed at the annual general meeting of NAFIJ next week.
The
organisation will call for the application for the best reports on the sector
and a jury would be formed to select the winners.
An
agreement has also been reached between the foundation and NAFIJ to establish a
renewable fund to provide similar awards in the future.
Late
Adhikari was a former deputy prime minister and minister of finance and leader
of CPN-UML. As a finance minister he had introduced the programmes like 'Build
your village yourself', senior citizen allowance and fee waiver for land
registration in the name of a women. He died on 2 March 2019.
Speaking
at the MoU signing ceremony, Lima said that the cooperation with NAFIJ would
promote journalism that would contribute to the economic growth and development
of the country including social and cooperative sectors.
