New NAFIJ committee under TRN journalist Dhakal elected

Kathmandu, Dec. 15

A new working committee has been elected in the Nepal Association of Financial Journalists (NAFIJ) under the leadership of Modnath Dhakal, a journalist of The Rising Nepal.

Thirteenth annual general meeting of the organisation, held on Wednesday, has elected Dhakal as its president. It has elected other six officials and four members of the committee while two more will be nominated later.

Parameshwor Adhikari of Notebazar and Menuka Karki of Hamroartha have been elected as vice presidents. Likewise, Nabin Dhungana of Onlinekhabar is elected as the General Secretary, Deepak Bhatt of Nepalkhabar as Secretary and Dilu Karki of Singhadurbar as Treasurer. Elected members are Nikesh Khatri of Ratopati, Bijay Parajuli of Onlinekhabar, Sabina Karki of Setopati and Rajaram Neupane of Nepal Press.

Speaking at the meeting, Governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank, Maha Prasad Adhikari, said that the central bank was putting its sincere efforts to save the economy from derailing. According to him, bank rate has come down to 6.76 per cent from 8.5 per cent a couple of months ago which indicates that national economy is gradually improving. "We will create ease in the market but the wrong practices should be curtailed," he said.

Likewise, Minister for Finance, Janardan Sharma, said that the exports should support in the national production. He said that the private sector is a close partner of the government. "They are the two wheels of a bicycle, if one goes wrong, it won’t move ahead," he said.

On the occasion, NAFIJ felicitated senior journalists and Station Manager of Radio Sagarmatha, Urbashi Basnyat Neupane for her contribution to the economic journalism. Likewise, Santosh Rokaya of Bikasnews and Samjhana Ghimire of Shilapatra won Bharat Mohan Adhikari-NAFIJ Cooperative and Economic prizes respectively. FM Sharma and Governor Adhikari conferred certificates and awards to them while a purse of Rs. 50,000 each was handed over to the prize-winners by Lima Adhikari, founder General Secretary of the Bharat Mohan Adhikari Foundation.

The foundation and NAFIJ have recently signed a memorandum of understanding to distribute the prizes on an annual basis.
