PM Oli meets UK under-secretary

Kathmandu, June 8: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli Wednesday held a meeting with Foreign and Commonwealth Under-Secretary of the United Kingdom Sir Simon McDonald and Department for International Development (DFID) permanent secretary Mark Lowcock at his office at Singha Durbar.
The two sides discussed the bilateral issues between Nepal and the UK and other international issues. They also deliberated on making the bilateral ties stronger.
The two nations are celebrating the bicentennial anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between them.
He assured the guests that the government primary focus was economic development and the government has guaranteed the security of foreign investment and would work to make the investment process simpler.
The Prime Minister urged the international community for bringing investment to Nepal.
The UK delegation expressed its concerns to implementation of the new constitution, economic development and UK government’s assistance in those areas.
The visiting high officials emphasized on exploitation of Nepal’s abundant natural resources and said that it was essential to create and maintain investment environment in order to attract foreign investment in large projects like hydroelectricity and railway. They expressed their happiness as the country was on the path of development and economic progress.
While updating the visiting delegation about the current political development in the country, PM Oli stated that Nepal promulgated inclusive constitution with equal rights to all.
“The constitution was approved by more than 92 per cent representatives at the Constituent Assembly and it is the best constitution in every aspect,” he said.
According to PM Oli, statements against the constitution were not logical and if there were any issues that needed to be addressed, he was ready to resolve them through dialogue.
He handed over copies of English edition of Nepal’s constitution to the delegates.
Meanwhile, PM Oli met United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office representatives in the afternoon. The delegation was led by UNHCR representative Craig Sanders.

The UNHCR delegation discussed about Nepal’s crucial role on resolving the problems faced by the Bhutanese refugees.
