Kathmandu, Aug. 15: The
government has reappointed Sushil Gyawali as the Chief Executive Officer of the
National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), the post-quake reconstruction body.
A Cabinet meeting on Tuesday
took a decision to this effect.
Gyawali was appointed as the
CEO of the NRA by the KP Sharma Oli-led government about two and a half years
ago, but the successive government led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda sacked
him from the post and reappointed Prof. Dr. Govinda Raj Pokharel.
After Dr. Pokharel resigned
from the post to contest in the federal election last year, former secretary
Yuba Raj Bhusal was given the responsibility of the reconstruction body. But
the present government sacked Bhusal last month.
Gyawali had filed a writ at
the Supreme Court seeking his reinstatement to the post. However, as the government
decided to entrust him with the responsibility, he said that he would withdraw the
writ.
Political interference in
the NRA has resulted in confusion in the beneficiaries and delay in grant
distribution.
The reconstruction body had
asked the quake-hit families to collect the Rs. 150,000 second installation of
the house reconstruction grant by the end of the last fiscal year. But about
half of the beneficiaries have not claimed the second tranche of the grant.
However, the NRA has not
taken any decision about the issue due to the absence of the chief in the
organisation.
