Nepal, China ethnic commissions to boost exchanges

 Kathmandu, Sept. 19

Chairman of Indigenous Nationalities Commission of Nepal (INCN), Ram Bahadur Thapa Magar held a bilateral meeting with Minister of the National Ethnic Affairs Commission (NEAC) of China, Pan Yue on Thursday.

Magar reached Beijing on Wednesday on an official visit at the invitation of Pan.

During the meeting, both the leaders appreciated deep and traditional socio-cultural and people-to-people relations between Nepal and China.

Magar highlighted the common similarities between the ethnic communities of Nepal and China, informed the Embassy of Nepal in Beijing, China.

"He shed light on the objectives, visions and functions of the INCN and underscored the need of frequent exchanges between the commissions, universities and students for the preservation and promotion of indigenous communities and their intangible heritage," he said.

In response, Pan agreed to enhance the exchanges and collaborations between two commissions stating that it will further strengthen the people-to-people connectivity between Nepal and China.

The delegation led by Magar comprises of INCN members Reena Rana, Sharan Rai and Surya Bahadur Gurung, Charge d'affaires of the Embassy, Surendra Kumar Yadav, and officials of the embassy. The Chinese delegation included Director General of the Department of Culture and Publicity, Zhang Mou, Director General of the International Department Wei Guoxion, and Vice-President of Minzu University of China, Jiang Shigong and other officials.
