Kathmandu, Apr. 6
A delegation from Doti district has
submitted a memorandum to Prime
Minister KP Sharma Oli urging the inclusion of the Khaptad Engineering Campus
in the district in the upcoming budget.
At the meeting held at
the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar, a delegation, including
representatives from the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML), requested the
government to focus on the development of the campus's essential infrastructure
and education facilities and prioritise the long-neglected district of Doti in
the budget.
The delegation, which
included former Minister Bir Bahadur Balayar, Constituent Assembly members
Gauri Wali and Bharat Bahadur Khadka, Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly member
Chakra Malla, District Coordination Committee Chief Laxman Bahadur Singh, Baji
Singh Khadka from Dipayal Silgadhi Municipality, Lokendra Bahadur Shahi,
Chairperson of K. I Singh Rural Municipality, Nepali Congress District Chair
Narendra Bahadur Singh and CPN (UML) District Chair Manju Malasi, had reached Baluwatar
to submit the petition.
The delegation pointed
out that although preparations were underway for the campus to operate under
the Tribhuvan University as the Doti Technical Campus in Dipayal Silgadhi
Municipality-6, Thapla, progress had been hindered due to a lack of manpower
and budget. The delegation brought attention to this matter at a high political
level, read a statement from the PM’s Secretariat.
The CPN (UML)
Vice-Chairman Ishwar Pokharel, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and other leaders were
present at the meeting. Prime Minister Oli assured the delegation that
discussions were ongoing to make the upcoming budget balanced, well-organised
and effective. He acknowledged that while Doti has a glorious history, it has
fallen behind in development and assured it would now be prioritised.
Prime Minister Oli
also said that efforts would be made through the upcoming budget to complete
the ongoing projects and ensure budget allocations are backed by a reliable
source. Regarding the infrastructure for Khaptad Engineering Campus, he
suggested that a hostel should be made mandatory so that students from distant
areas could reside and study at the campus.
