Kathmandu, Apr. 1
Aiming to promote
women’s empowerment, capacity building, inclusivity, gender equality, and
awareness, Nabil Bank successfully organised the ‘Women in Motion–Accelerate
Action’ event in Kathmandu on Monday.
Bank’s Chairman
Upendra Prasad Poudel reiterated the bank’s commitment to gender equality,
stating that achieving gender inclusivity would have a positive impact across
all sectors. He highlighted that historically, women have been paid less than
men, but noted that this is beginning to change.
However, he also
pointed out that incidents of violence against women persist in workplaces,
though Nepal has identified these issues and is working towards solutions,
according to a statement issued by the bank.
Manoj Gyawali, the
bank’s Acting CEO, emphasised the need for greater female leadership in the
banking sector. He acknowledged that women’s representation in banking
leadership remains low and expressed confidence that such events would play a
key role in boosting women’s participation and motivation.
Aasrayta Karki
Choudhary, Chairperson of the Nepal Super League, praised the initiative as a
significant step towards achieving gender equality. She noted that women’s
participation brings valuable skills, perspectives, and collaboration,
stressing the importance of networking and teamwork in a male-dominated
society.
Throughout March,
Nabil Bank has organised several programmes centred on women’s issues,
including wellness sessions, gender equality promotion, and initiatives aimed
at improving workplace safety and creating supportive communities.
