Visit to Thailand has opened doors for increased investment: PM Oli

Kathmandu, Apr. 5

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said that his first official visit to Thailand has opened doors for increasing investment and cooperation from Thailand in Nepal.

Speaking at the ‘Ncell–Bahrakhari Golf and Economic Symposium’ organised by Bahrakhari Online today in Gokarna of Kathmandu, Prime Minister Oli said that the exchange of experiences between the business communities of Nepal and Thailand, as well as the signing of various agreements during the visit, were highly fruitful.

After completing a five-day official visit to Thailand and leading Nepali delegation to the sixth BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) Summit held in Bangkok, PM Oli returned on Saturday.

Addressing the programme, he said that with the youth constituting around 40 per cent of the population, it is essential to utilise available resources to develop skilled human capital and accelerate development.

“If there is a mindset of obstruction and not letting people work, the pace of development will be hampered. In order to move forward smoothly, everyone must possess a sense of patriotism. We have formulated good laws, and those laws must be properly implemented,” he said.

According to him, the tendency to develop hostility upon facing a people’s government must end. "We are striving to ensure good governance and effective service delivery. There are many promising opportunities, and this visit to Thailand has also opened those doors," he maintained.

PM Oli recalled initiating the implementation of the Digital Nepal Framework and emphasised the need to increase the number of skilled and employment-oriented human resources in this sector, thereby creating an environment to reap economic benefits through the use of information technology.

Likewise, General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, Gagan Thapa, said that the bills recently passed by Parliament had laid the foundation for increasing production and productivity through the use of information technology.

He stressed the need to pursue economic prosperity through widespread application of IT.
