Kathmandu, May 16
Deputy Speaker of
the House of Representatives, Indira Rana Magar, held a bilateral meeting with
Xiao Jie, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's
Congress of China.
The meeting took
place at Hotel Dwarika’s during Xiao’s four-day official visit to Nepal at the
invitation of Deputy Speaker Rana.
During the
meeting, Deputy Speaker Rana emphasised the need for continued Chinese support
in realising Nepal’s developmental aspirations, particularly in the areas of
connectivity and infrastructure development. She stated that Nepal regards
China as a close friend, neighbour, and a reliable development partner.
She expressed
gratitude for China’s generous assistance in Nepal’s nation-building efforts,
including in the sectors of infrastructure, connectivity, health, education,
and post-disaster reconstruction. She noted that the traditionally friendly
relations between Nepal and the People's Republic of China have become broader
and deeper in recent years.
"I am
confident that Nepal–China relations have laid a solid foundation for
fulfilling our shared aspirations for development, prosperity, and sustainable
peace for the people of both countries," she said.
Present at the
meeting were Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress, Shyam Kumar Ghimire;
Chairperson of the Federalism Enhancement and National Concern Committee of the
National Assembly, Sonam Gyalzen Sherpa; Secretary General of the Federal
Parliament, Padma Prasad Pandey; and Nepal’s Ambassador to China, Krishna
Prasad Oli, among others.
From the Chinese
side, Ambassador Chen Song and other senior officials were present.
