Kathmandu, May 10
The Embassy of Nepal in Muscat, Oman, organised a
Nepal-Oman Friendship Hiking Programme on Saturday. The event aimed to foster friendship,
promote wellness and encourage environmental awareness among the Nepali and
Omani communities, the Embassy informed in a statement.
The hike started early in the morning from Riyam Park,
proceeding through the historic Muttrah Fort and ended at Riyam Park.
The two-hour-long hike brought together a diverse group
of 46 participants, including Ambassador Dornath Aryal, the
first Omani woman to summit Sagarmatha, Nadira Al Harthy, Embassy officials and
their family members, representatives of Nepali community organisations, Omani
journalists and social media influencers.
Emergency safety measures, including an ambulance, were
arranged through the Foreign Ministry of the Sultanate of Oman. Before the hike, Al Harthi briefed
participants on important precautions and safety tips for hiking.
“All participants enjoyed the hiking trail, which offers
stunning views. Since the route mostly faces north, it is suitable for hiking
in the early morning and evening even during the summer season,” read the
statement.
As part of the environmental awareness initiative,
participants also took part in collecting plastic bottles and other litter
along the route, reinforcing the message of ecological responsibility.
Ambassador Aryal praised the breathtaking scenery,
highlighting the colourful rock formations, water-filled streams and the variety
of plants along the trail.
