FNCCI demands punishments to perpetrators of vandalism in Jagadamba

Kathmandu, Aug 31

The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has condemned the vandalism at the Jagadamba Steel Pvt. Ltd in Simara – Birgung-Pathlaiya Industrial Corridor.

Issuing a statement on Tuesday, the business body stated that its attention was drawn to the act of destructive work on 27 August and demanded action against the vandals.

“Industries operated at the local level have been providing employment and other facilities and have been contributing to raising the lifestyle of people. But it is a sad thing that the local people forcefully entered the industry premises and vandalised important machines and parked vehicles,” said the FNCCI. “And it happened while the industry was in a problem,” it added.

Some local people had forcefully entered the industry premises when an Amonia Gas Tank leaked at 10:15 AM on 27 August and damaged the property.

FNCCI said that it was unfortunate that while the case could be resolved through dialogue, property of the enterprise was damaged.

According to it, such act will damage the mutual understanding between the industry and local people. It also reduces the confidence of the entrepreneurs, discourage the investment and give negative message to the domestic and foreign investors.

“Therefore, FNCCI requests the governments at all levels to punish the guilty and create an environment to run the industry as it was prior to the incident,” it said.
