Chief Minister of Lumbini
Province, Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary and Vice President of National Planning
Commission (NPC) Dr. Min Bahadur Shrestha have emphasized the production and
promotion of made in Nepal goods.
In a meeting held at the
office of the NPC at Singhdarbar, Chief Minister Chaudhary and Vice President
Shrestha discussed the country's economy and development.
CM Chaudhary recommended
that policies and programmes to promote indigenous production should be
introduced. He requested the commission to play a role in making programmes that
promote indigenous products and create jobs in the country.
Expressing concerns over
the pervasive availability of foreign wines in the domestic market and poor
importance given to the Nepali goods, CM Choudhary said, "We buy rice beer
(chhyang) from South Korea, and the one made here in Tharu's home is being
destroyed."
He said that even though
indigenous products are very good, Nepal has not been able to market them, and
now every indigenous product should be given priority.
Vice President Dr.
Shrestha said that increasing domestic products is the need of the day. He said
that domestic production should be emphasized in order to strengthen the
economy as it helps in increasing domestic production and employment.
Dr. Shrestha said that he
always believed that domestic products should be given priority in order to
create jobs. "We have to do something new than what is happening, we will do
something for production and employment," he said.
During the meeting, Vice
President Shrestha congratulated Chief Minister Chaudhary and wished him a
successful tenure. Chaudhary had received a vote of confidence from the
Provincial Assembly as Chief Minister just a few days ago.
