Kathmandu, May 11
Minister
for Foreign Affairs Narayan Prakash Saud is leaving for Bangladesh on Friday to
participate in the 6th Indian Ocean Conference.
The
conference is being held under the theme of ‘Peace, Prosperity and Partnership
for a Resilient Future’ from 12-13 May 2023 in Dhaka, Capital city of
Bangladesh, informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in a statement on
Thursday.
FM
Saud is scheduled to address the conference on Saturday, May 13.
During
the visit, the Foreign Minister is scheduled to call on high dignitaries of the
Government of Bangladesh as well as meet with participating heads of delegation
from various countries on the margins of the Conference.
He
will return to Kathmandu on May 14.
Started
in 2016 in Singapore with the participation of 22 countries, the IOC has
emerged as the flagship consultative forum for countries in the region over
regional affairs, said the organisers.
"The
Conference endeavours to bring critical states and principal maritime partners
of the region together on a common platform to deliberate upon the prospects of
regional cooperation for Security And Growth for All in the Region
(SAGAR)," read the statement from the organisers – India Foundation,
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh and S. Rajatatnam School of
International Studies, Singapore.
Previous
editions of the conference were held in Colombo of Sri Lanka, Hanoi of Vietnam,
Maldives and Abu Dhabi of the United Arab Emirates.
