Nepal Tourism Board, Chinese Embassy
in Nepal and Pokhara Metropolitan City will jointly organise Nepal-China
Friendship Dragon Boat-Race Festival for the first time in Pokhara from June 23-24,
2023.
Pokhara Tourism Council and Nepal
China Overseas Association will be the co-organisers of the event.
An agreement was signed between the
Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and Chinese Embassy regarding the event, which is
being organised with the aim of improving the cultural and people-to-people
relations between the two countries and increasing the number of Chinese
tourists in Nepal, NTB said in a statement.
The programme was signed by CEO of
NTB, Dr. Dhananjay Regmi, and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Chinese Embassy, Wang
Jin, in the presence of Mayor of Pokhara, Dhanraj Acharya, and Board Member of
NTB, Madan Acharya.
The Chinese team informed that this
type of boat-race festival will be organised for the first time in South Asia.
For the race, other participants will come to Nepal with eight special boats
from China. All the seven provinces of Nepal will participate in the festival,
NTB informed.
Speaking
after the signing of the agreement, Mayor Acharya said that this type of
programme will add a new dimension to Nepal's tourism. He said that the event will
add new products to the tourism of Pokhara. Both the parties have expressed their
intention to organise the event every year.
Regmi said that the boat-race festival
will help to make the tourism of Pokhara more sustainable. He also said that
this programme will attract many tourists through the cooperation and
participation of other stakeholders.
Likewise, Wang mentioned that Pokhara
is an attractive destination for Chinese tourists and said that cultural and
people-to-people relations between the two countries will be further
strengthened through this programme.
A food festival will also be organised
on the occasion.
