Nepal, Russia exchange messages on 70th year of relations

Nepal and Russia exchanged congratulatory messages on Sunday to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov exchanged messages commemorating the anniversary.

In his message, Khanal expressed Nepal's commitment to working with Russia to strengthen and expand bilateral engagement. He also emphasised exploring new areas of cooperation to deepen and diversify the partnership, the MoFA informed in a statement.

Likewise, in him Message, FM Lavrov said Russia looked forward to working jointly to strengthen bilateral relations for the mutual benefit of the people of both countries.

Nepal and the Russian Federation established diplomatic relations on 20 July 1956.

The two countries started economic and technical cooperation since 1959. Russia supported Nepal with the establishment of Kanti Hospital, Panauti Hydroelectricity Project, Pathlaiya-Dhalkebar Highway, Janakpur Cigarette Factory, Agricutlral Input Factory, Birgunj Sugar Mill, and Rosin and Turpentine Plant, among others.

They have cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, education, and political and people to people exchanges.
