Bashistha’s ‘Nepal Bidya’ wins Uttam Kriti Puraskar

Kathmandu, Aug. 13

Kedar Bashistha’s book ‘Nepal Bidya’ has won Sahitya Post Uttam Kriti Puraskar.

Vice-Chancellor of the Nepal Academy Dr. Jagman Gurung handed over the prize including a citation and a purse of Rs. 50,000 to Bashistha at a programme organised on Friday.

Organiser, Sahitya Post, said that the book was conferred the best book of 2077 BS on the basis of the evaluation of a panel of juries. Dr. Gurung stated that the book was the best creation made at a time when Nepalis have failed to know their own country.

“This book deserves the best prize. It has enhanced the pride of the nation,” he said.

Bashistha is Deputy Executive Editor of Gorkhapatra Daily and this is his maiden work.

He said that the prize came with encouragement and responsibilities at the same time. “This prize has motivated me to engage in research. ‘Nepal Bidya’ is not a history but research and theory,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the jury, writer Shree Om Shrestha Rodan said that the book was awarded because it was the best. He appreciated Bashistha for such an in-depth analysis in his maiden work.

Chief Editor of Sahitya Post, Ashwini Koirala, said that 27 books were in the fray for the prize.
