Govt to expand gold, silver business: NPC

Kathmandu, Aug 3

Newly appointed Vice Chairman of National Planning Commission Dr. Biswo Nath Poudel has said that the government will make necessary initiatives to develop and expand the gold and silver business sectors.

In a meeting with a delegation of the Federation of Nepalese Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association at his office on Tuesday, he said that the sector would contribute more to the economy if the agenda of the business were included in the national policies and implemented.

Dr. Poudel also expressed his commitment that the NPC would more seriously think about the promotion of the original jewelleries of Nepal, mine excavation and export promotion.

“Gold and silver business sector has an important contribution to the economic development of the country and creation of employment opportunities. It is the source of billions of revenue to the state,” he said.

During the meeting, President of the Association Manik Ratna Shakya appraised Dr. Poudel of the challenges of the business.

“Insufficient supply of raw materials in the market has created problems in the smooth operation of our business,” he said.
