Consuls demand facilities

Kathmandu, Aug. 7

Honorary Consul Corps (HCC), an organisation of honorary consuls of various countries in Nepal, has demanded to provide them the privileges as representatives of the diplomatic missions.

A delegation of the corps led by its Dean Lokmanya Golchha met Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Saturday afternoon to make the demand.

The delegation had met the PM to congratulate him for the assumption of the responsibilities as the head of the government. Stating that the honorary consuls in the past had the privileges to use the vehicles as the diplomatic missions in the country did, the delegation to continue the provision which the previous government had scrapped.

Honorary consuls had the privilege to use the vehicles bearing a blue number plate and the flag of the country they represent.

Rajesh Kazi Shrestha, a member of the delegation, said that the provision had supported to provide respect and privilege to the visiting delegates in the country. “It would show respect to the visiting guests,” he said.

The corps also demanded to provide facility to the honorary consuls in line with the ambassadors of foreign countries upon their arrival at the international airport.

Golchha also said that the provision would show the country’s respect to the visiting high-level foreign guests.

According to Shrestha, PM Deuba had pledged to make necessary moves regarding their demands.
