Kathmandu, July 31
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has requested the Swiss
government to help Nepal by bringing in more foreign direct investors for its
economic development and prosperity.
Foreign aid will be a catalyst for the development of Nepal,
he said to the Ambassador of Switzerland to Nepal, Dr. Danielle Meuwly, who
called on PM Oli at the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar on Wednesday.
PM Oli mentioned that Switzerland had excelled in developing
an inclusive democratic structure and said that the government of Nepal was trying
to strengthen democracy and make the state structure accountable to the people
at the grassroots level, according to the personal secretariat of the PM.
He expressed the government's commitment to take necessary corrective
measures to increase Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and noted the enthusiastic
participation of 50 countries in the recently concluded Nepal Investment Summit.
As Nepal aims to be upgraded from an underdeveloped country
by 2026 and to become a middle-income country by 2030, PM Oli said that the
country expected increased cooperation from development partners.
He thanked the government of Switzerland for its continuous
support in the development of Nepal, support in the prevention of COVID-19 and
cooperation and harmony in the peace process. He also recalled President
Ramchandra Paudel's visit to Switzerland in early July and his participation in
the World Economic Forum held in Davos in 2019 when he was Prime Minister, and
said that such high-level visits and exchanges would add a new dimension to
mutual relations.
Ambassador Dr. Meuwly congratulated and wished Prime
Minister Oli for the success of his tenure and assured him of continuing
bilateral mutual benefit and cooperation.
