Vice Chairperson National
Assembly, Bimala Ghimire, has said that immediate direct air connectivity
should be established between Gautam Buddha International Airport and Pokhara
International Airport in Nepal with various cities in China.
"Direct air connectivity
between the tourism and religious cities of Nepal with tourist source cities in
China will help promote Nepal's tourism and operate the international
airports," she said while speaking at a programme on 'Third plenary
session of the 20th Central Committee of CPC: Sharing Development
Opportunities with Nepal' organised by Friends of Silk Road Club- Nepal in
Kathmandu on Friday.
Pokhara Airport was built with
financial assistance from China while GBIA was constructed by a Chinese
contractor.
According to her, the arrangement
for the direct air service between Nepali and Chinese cities will serve as a
milestone for Nepal's tourism development.
She also said that faced with
global challenges of climate change and environmental damage, China and Nepal could
cooperate for green development.
According to Ghimire, China and
Nepal can work together in infrastructure development, agriculture and rural
development, tourism, education and capacity development, green development and
environment protection.
She stressed on the development
of the road, rail and air links through the Trans-Himalayan Multi-Dimensional
Connectivity Network to open up new economic opportunities for Nepal.
"China's experience of
successfully transforming its economy and freeing millions of people from
poverty is an important source of inspiration for developing countries," Ghimire
said.
Speaking on the occasion, the Counsellor
of the Embassy of China in Kathmandu, Xie Yu, said that the third plenary of
the CPC had discussed more than 300 reform and development measures and many of
them promote shared prosperity in the region.
According to him, the
Trans-Himalayan Multidimensional Connectivity Network has taken shape and there
will be more development cooperation in the days to come.
General Secretary of the Society,
Dr. Kalyan Raj Sharma, said that the event was organised to highlight several
key areas of potential collaboration and mutual growth between China and Nepal,
including infrastructure development, urban-rural development, market and
economy, trade and investment, governance and institutional reforms, democracy,
technology and innovation and education.
