HTM raised interest of buyers to sell Nepal

Kathmandu, June 3: The Himalayan Travel Mart (HTM), one of the largest travel shows that has ever happened in the country, has helped Nepal to position it as the best destination for meetings, incentives, conference and exhibition (MICE) tourism in South Asia, said the organiser Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).

It has also helped in igniting the interest of buyers to sell Nepal and other Himalayan destinations as well.

According to the NTB, the participants were of the opinion that the HTM has aroused the interest of foreign travel and tour operators, and media in terms of Nepal’s tourist destinations, including cultural heritages, people and natural attractions such as Himalayas, lakes and rivers.

The second edition of the HTM witnessed the participation of about 59 buyers from 26 countries and 52 sellers from seven different countries, including Nepal, India, Bhutan, South Korea, Indonesia, Turkey and United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The three-day event had begun on Friday with the theme ‘The sustainable road to five million visitors by 2030’.

International Travel Bloggers and Media Conference was also organised during the event where bloggers from across the world discussed various burning issues in the tourism industry. The conference hosted 43 international bloggers and media persons from 18 countries.

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Rabindra Adhikari said that Nepal needed international support to promote tourism and new destinations. He said that Nepal could be a destination for the peace lovers, trekkers, researchers and adventure seekers.

Chairman of China Investment Forum Dr. Marcus Lee suggested that Nepal should work on the country’s international positioning.

International speakers recommended developing tourism infrastructure as soon as possible, market the destinations and products in a unique way and improve the environment in the Kathmandu Valley.
