FM asks NRNs to be partner in country's development


Kathmandu, Nov. 18:
Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali on Sunday urged the Non-Resident Nepalis (NRNs) to be a partner of the government for economic development of the country and to realise the motto 'Prosperous Nepal, happy Nepali'.
"I request you to be the goodwill ambassadors for the promotion of Nepal in Japan," he said while speaking at an interaction on 'Nepal Japan Diplomatic Relations' organised by the NRN Association National Coordination Centre Japan in Tokyo.
He called on the NRNs to promote investment, transfer technology and skills to Nepal in priority sectors.
Minister Gyawali also shed light on the latest political developments and priorities of the government, said the Embassy of Nepal in Tokyo.
He also attended a welcome reception-dinner hosted by Ambassador of Nepal to Japan Prativa Rana.
He highlighted the purpose and importance of his official visit to Japan on the occasion and expressed his belief that the visit would further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries and explore new areas of cooperation for mutual benefit.
According to the Embassy, Member of the House of Representatives and Deputy Secretary of Japan-Nepal Parliamentary Friendship League Tadahiko Ito stressed on the need of parliamentary exchanges between the two countries and assured his full support to further expand and deepen the bilateral cooperation.
NRNA president Bhawan Bhatta and NRNA Asia Pacific Coordinator Kiran Bikram Thapa expressed their commitment to supporting the government in its development drive.
Minister Gyawali reached Tokyo on Saturday for a week-long visit at the the invitation of his Japanese Counterpart Taro Kono.
He is leading a seven-member delegation.
 During his stay in Japan he is scheduled to hold meetings with Kono and Japanese Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Takamori Yoshikawa.
He will ask Japan to open its labour market for skilled and semi-skilled Nepali workers.
Similarly, Nepal will ask the Japanese government to increase its support to Nepal in infrastructure development.
