Aryal asks cooperatives to invest in productive sectors


Kathmandu, Dec. 18

Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Padma Kumari Aryal has urged the cooperatives to invest in the productive sectors in an integrated way.


"Cooperatives have reached across the country so they can help the country usher in the socialism with integrated investment in productive sectors," she said while speaking at the Cooperative Leaders National Forum 2019 organised by National Cooperative Bank.


She said that socialism would be impossible without capital formation, therefore, cooperatives must be focused on using the capital in a productive way. "You have an opportunity to be an engineer of socialism," she said.


According to Minister Aryal, cooperatives should create their programmes with high priority to economic prosperity. She also said that the government was formulating a new law to guide the cooperatives investment to the productive sectors so that it could support in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.


"The future direction for cooperatives is prosperity and development. Your support can be instrumental in taking the national aspiration 'Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali' to people's level," she said, "So, you have to be conscious enough to maintain good governance in the organisation and make it strong."


Minister Aryal also said that the number of cooperatives would be brought down and environment would be created to operate large-scale agriculture farm and enterprises through cooperatives.
