‘Govt will protect honest officials, won’t spare corrupt ones’

Kathmandu, Dec. 7

Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Padma Kumari Aryal has asked the staff of agencies under her ministry not to be scared of the reprimand from the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).

"The CIAA has not arrested any government official that has not made a mistake. Therefore, you need not to hesitate to take good and progressive decision," she said at the annual progress review of the last fiscal year 2018/19 of Department of Land Management and Archive in Pokhara on Saturday.

"People have complained that employees at the Department of Survey, and Land Management are sluggish and demand money. I don't know but you need to be aware of this," she said.

Minister Aryal said that the reform at the department should be visible at the workstation of the government staff and demanded that people should feel the change as soon as they enter the office premises.

According to her, employees with integrity should not be afraid of anything while the corrupt officials wouldn't be spared. She urged them to rise themselves above their 'job mentality' and serve people with dedication.

"The government will protect the officials with integrity. You must not show your greed for money and should not be afraid of local hooligans," said Aryal.

The minister warned the officials that society had raised an accusing finger to the ministry and department and directed the staff for the required reforms at the earliest. "When people have already accused us for our anomalies, we must be working consciously to serve them. You must not leave any instance to raise any question about the services of this office," she said.

She also directed them to implement the recent decisions of the ministry and laws formulated in order to revolutionise the land management sector.

According to her, following the National Land Policy, the government is preparing for the creation of integrated land act.

Minister Aryal urged the officials to read the policies, laws and bylaws thoroughly and to promote technology in their services.

Secretary of the ministry Surya Prasad Gautam said that there were two types of government staff – work-centric and money centric - and urged the officials to be work-centric and sincere in delivering the services to people.

"Land management is a sensitive area so work consciously," he directed.
