Kathmandu, Aug 30
Minister for Women, Children and Senior
Citizens Parbat Gurung on Sunday announced to establish 'Social
Entrepreneurship Fund' to support the entrepreneurs in the sector.
He said that the fund would be established to
support the social organisations in implementing social and humanitarian
services thus ending their compulsion to fully rely on the foreign donors.
"We aim to support the social service
sector through the fund," he said while speaking at a virtual meeting
organised to launch a report 'Access to Justice: Social enterprise in Nepal'
published by Beyond Beijing Committee.
He also expressed his commitment in
immediately formulating social entrepreneurship-friendly policies and laws and
appealed all concerned stakeholders to submit the suggestions for such policies
and laws.
"There is a growing need to amend the
laws and policies so that they would address the issues of Value Added Tax
(VAT) and other taxes in the social entrepreneur sector. I urge all the
stakeholders in the social welfare and non-government sectors as well as civil
society leaders to submit the recommendations," said Minister Gurung.
The government is also mulling to establish
'Women Entrepreneurship Facilitation Centre' in all local levels from this
fiscal year 2020/21 to promote women entrepreneurship in rural areas and Himali
region.
The minister expressed his confidence that the
social entrepreneurship campaign would give a much-needed impetus to discourage
the existing women violence and discrimination in the society and make them
economically able.
The government has also planned to establish a
'market centre' at the Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu to exhibit and market the
goods produced by the women entrepreneurs. He also urged the stakeholders to
support the government in this drive.
