Three modalities proposed for FNCCI election

Kathmandu, Sept. 8

The committee formed to recommend the modality to organise the election of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has suggested three modalities, including the direct and virtual methods.

It has recommended organising the programmes of Annual Geenral Assembly, including inauguration, closed session and closing ceremony virtually in zoom. In case of the elections, it suggested organising the elections of the district and municipal chamber of commerce, commotiy association and binational chambers in Kathmandu with the strict adherence to the health and safety protocols.

Another modality suggests holding the elections of district and municipal chambers in the respective states and of associates in Kathmandu.

The third modality is about applying the e-voting methods.

The business body has formed a committee on August 5 to recommend the models to hold its 54th AGM and elections after the programme postponed twice due to the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown.

The committee has submitted its report to FNNCI president Bhawani Rana on Monday evening.

The committee was represented by Arun Raj Sumargi and DB Basnet from district and municipal chambers, Binod Dhakal and Sunil Gopal Shrestha from commodity associations and Bharat Raj Acharya and Ranjit Raj Acharya from associate sector.

According to the business body, the committee had prepared its report after consulting with the stakeholders, including the concerned ministries, COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre (CCMC), health experts and others.

As per the organisation’s statute, the election and AGM should be held in April this year, but the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown announced on 24 March forced to postpone the programme.

The events were rescheduled for August 9 and 10 but again they were postponed as the cases of COVID-19 continued to increase across the country.
