Kathmandu, Nov. 13
Airlines Operators Association of Nepal (AOAN) has urged the
government not to impose another lockdown as it would further deteriorate the
business and economic situation in the country.
Stating that its attention was drawn to the news reports
regarding the imposition of lockdown for two weeks after Chhath festival, it
maintained that the economy that was gradually becoming active would again be
damaged.
"It would mean that the concerned authorities wanted to
escape from their own responsibilities," spokesperson of the AOAN Yograj
Kandel Sharma said in a statement on Friday.
"The association and the airlines companies are fully
against the lockdown and we want to draw the attention of concerned agencies
and authorities to it," he further said.
According to AOAN, the six-month restrictions had severely
affected the tourism, transportation, aviation and other service businesses,
therefore, another lockdown would mean a restriction to the income generating
works of the common people, loss of job, trouble to families.
Lockdown will add another financial burden to aviation
sector which has already witnessed Rs. 6 billion loss, it said.
It also said that the opening of the internal tourism from
next week had a very positive impact on the travel and tourism business and
people were booking the holiday and trekking packages which would have a significant
impact on the airlines industry.
