Kathmandu,
Sept. 9: Nepal is hosting the 21st Conference of AIRDC (Association
of Insurers and Reinsurers of Developing Countries) on 25-26 September.
The
conference, themed ‘Building financial resilience – disaster risk financing and
insurance’, will deliberate on critical issues related to leadership, ratings,
micro-insurance, digitization, insurtech-adopting new technology, cyber risk
and catastrophe.
“The
conference will look at cutting-edge strategies in the insurance business and
highlight the areas where brokers can rise to reinforce their role in the value
chain of insurance as valued partners to both insurers and risk managers and
corporate clients in the dynamic risk landscape,” Chiranjibi Chapagain,
Chairman of the Insurance Board of Nepal said at a press meet organised to
inform about the conference.
Nepal will show the insurance leaders,
companies and regulators the progress it made in terms of post-quake recovery
of the industry and growth of insurance sector in the country, he said.
He
also said that the conclusion of the conference will be useful in creating
strategies to develop Nepal’s insurance sector.
Insurance
regulators, insurance companies and brokerage agencies from 29 developing
countries are the members of the AIRDC, and delegates from about two dozen
countries will attend the conference, according to Vijaya Bahadur Shah,
Vice-President of the AIRDC and Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Insurance
Company Limited.
About
500 foreign and local delegates from insurance sector as well as other related
sectors are expected to participate in the two-day conference.
This
will be an opportunity of experience sharing and learning for us, said Dip
Prakash Pandey, President of Nepal Insurers’ Association (NIA).
The
conference is jointly organised by the AIRDC, Insurance Board of Nepal and NIA,
and supported by Association of Insurance Supervisory Authorities of Developing
Countries (AISADC).
Nepal
had organised the last AIRDC conference in 2000.
