Lalitpur, Sept. 3:
Maitri Mahasthavir, president
of All Nepal Bhikkhu Association (ANBA), has urged people from all walks of
life to work together to bring happiness in the world.
"We all are
equally responsible for the lack of peace and prosperity in the society. We
should follow the teachings of the Buddha and follow his path to attain peace
and harmony," he said while addressing a one-day international seminar on
'How to unify Buddhists in the 21st century', organised by
Nirvanmurti Vihar, Kathmandu on Monday.
He said that all
Buddhists should feel the necessity for unification and work together to spread
the Buddha's teachings.
Dolpo Buddha Rimpoche,
main Guru of Yaestsher Monastery of Dolpo and founder of Snowland Ranag Light
of Education School, said that Buddhists were lagging behind due to political
and other various reasons, but there would be a revival soon.
He praised the Newars
of the Kathmandu Valley for preserving Buddhist art, culture and traditions.
He also urged for
working together to spread the Buddha's message to the world. "The Buddha
is the image of Nepal and a synonym of peace, we must take it to the
world," he said.
Ambassador of
Bangladesh to Nepal Mashfee Binte Shams said that Bangladesh had one of the
oldest Buddhist cultures in the world.
"Ancient Buddhist
relics as old as 2300 years have been found in Bangladesh. The 7th
century was the golden era for Buddhism in Bangladesh," she said.
Shams said that the
Bangladesh government was conserving Buddhist heritage sites in the country.
There are 1.2 million
Buddhists in Bangladesh.
Similarly, Ambassador
of Brazil to Nepal Maria Teresa Mesquita Pessoa said that the Buddha's
teachings were rapidly spreading across the world.
"Buddhism came to
Brazil in the 19th century, and there are many people who like
it," she said.
Bhikkhu Kondanya Mahasthavir, General Secretary of ANBA, said
that every human wanted to be happy and avoid pain and suffering.
"We all are
interconnected, so we should spread love, affection and happiness to create
harmony in the society. We should devote ourselves to uplift others. This is
the true meaning of the Dhamma," he said.
