Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies
(MoICS), Ganesh Pandey said that the government-run Nepal Transit and
Warehousing Company (NTWC) should formulate a new strategy to make the company
more competitive and provide services to the private sector in more efficient manner.
The ministry is ready to support the company with the
required budget and policies, he pledged while speaking at the 52nd
Anniversary Programme of the NTWC.
Newly appointed chairman of the company, Chhabi Raj Pant, expressed
his commitment to implement modern management system in the company and provide
the service to the private sector promptly.
Govinda Karki, Joint Secretary of the MoICS, stressed on
cooperation between the agencies like NTWC and Nepal Intermodal Transport
Development Board (NITDB).
He said that there is a need to rethink about the government
agency managing warehouse and logistics. There shouldn't be any confusion about
the operation of the company and its objectives, he maintained.
Ashish Gajurel, Executive Director of Nepal Intermodal
Transport Development Board (NITDB), said that there is a need of greater
cooperation among the government and private sector companies involved in
transit and logistics management.
The NTWC is a government-run company established in 1971 and
provides transit and warehousing facilities for the import and export of Nepal
from abroad. It provides warehousing facilities at Kolkata and Haldia ports in
India and conducts all transit related activities.
The company also offers services like customs enclosed
container parking yard, clearing and forwarding, undertaking, terminal
management, transportation, referee van at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA)
and weighbridge service. It has its branches in customs areas in Birgunj,
Kakadvitta, TIA, and Tatopani, as well as Kolkata, Haldia and Radhikapur in
India.
