Kathmandu, July 15: Nepal and Djibouti have established
formal bilateral diplomatic relations on Saturday.
Permanent
Representative of Nepal and Djibouti to the United Nations Durga Prasad
Bhattaraiand Mohamed SiadDoualeh respectively signed an instrument to this
effect at a brief ceremony at the Permanent Mission of Nepal in New York.
According to a press
statement issued by the Nepali Mission to the UN, the two Ambassadors exchanged
views on further expanding the areas of cooperation at bilateral and
multilateral forums, and committed to working together in pursuit of peace,
development and common prosperity ahead.
The two Ambassadors
also jointly informed Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United
Nations, about the establishment of Nepal-Djibouti bilateral relations the same
day.
The number of countries
with which Nepal has established diplomatic relations has now reached 147.
The Republic of
Djibouti is a country situated in the Horn of Africa and serves as a transit
route for east African Countries.
It has population about
850,000. Djibouti joined the United Nations on 20 September 1977.
