Nepal to review SDGs

Kathmandu, July 14: Vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC) Dr. Min Bahadur Shrestha left for New York on Friday to participate in the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.
He is leading a 5-member delegation to the Forum which is slated for July 17-19, informed the NPC in a press statement.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) announced by the United Nations will be reviewed in the Forum.
“Of the countries that participated in the agenda of sustainable development, 44 countries, including Nepal, will present their voluntary national review (VNR) of the SDGs. Efforts made to achieve the SDGs and current statues will be discussed in the meeting,” reads the statement.
Dr. Shrestha will participate in sideline events such as Data Revolution for Poverty Eradication and Achievement of Agenda 2030.
In March this year, the government has formed two High Level Committees and nine Thematic Working groups to rollout and implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
National Steering Committee, chaired by the Prime Minister and chairman of the National Planning Commission (NPC) which includes Minister for Finance, Minister of Foreign Affairs and chief secretary as members, is the apex body for guiding the pursuit of the SDGs in the country.
